A comprehensive ruqyah guide based on the Quran and Sunnah. Self-ruqyah steps, protection duas, evil eye remedies, and scholarly guidance.
Ruqyah is spiritual healing and protection through recitation of Quranic verses and authentic supplications.
Ruqyah (الرُّقْيَة) is the practice of seeking cure from spiritual ailments — evil eye, magic, and jinn affliction — through recitation of Quranic verses, Allah's Names and Attributes, and authentic prophetic supplications. It is a proven and approved healing method in Islam.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Present your ruqyah to me. There is nothing wrong with ruqyah as long as it does not involve shirk." (Sahih Muslim 2200)
A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: "When any of his family members fell ill, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would blow over them reciting the Mu'awwidhat (Surah Al-Falaq and An-Nas)." (Sahih Bukhari 5016)
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever among you can benefit his brother, let him do so." (Sahih Muslim 2199)
The sunnah method for performing ruqyah on yourself. Follow these steps with full reliance on Allah.
Begin in a state of ritual purity. Perform wudu as you would for prayer. This is the sunnah way to prepare yourself spiritually.
Choose a clean, peaceful spot free from distractions. Face the qiblah if possible. This helps focus your heart and intention.
Recite the Quran with full yaqin (certainty) that Allah alone is the Healer. Your trust in Allah is more important than the volume of recitation.
After reciting, blow gently (nafth) into your cupped hands and wipe them over your body — face, chest, and any area of pain. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to do this before sleeping.
Recite the ruqyah verses over a container of water, blow gently into it, then drink from it and wash with it. This is established from the practice of the salaf.
These verses form the foundation of ruqyah. Each verse includes full Arabic text, transliteration, and translation.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path. The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have earned anger nor of those who are astray.

Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, saying: We make no distinction between any of His messengers. And they say: We hear and we obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final destination. Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have the consequence of what good it has gained, and it will bear the consequence of what evil it has earned. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.
Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad. Allahus-Samad. Lam yalid wa lam yulad. Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad.
Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. And there is none comparable to Him.
Qul a'udhu bi-Rabbil-falaq. Min sharri ma khalaq. Wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab. Wa min sharrin-naffathati fil-'uqad. Wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad.
Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak. From the evil of that which He created. And from the evil of darkness when it settles. And from the evil of those who blow on knots. And from the evil of an envier when he envies.
Qul a'udhu bi-Rabbin-nas. Malikin-nas. Ilahin-nas. Min sharril-waswasil-khannas. Alladhi yuwaswisu fi sudurin-nas. Minal-jinnati wan-nas.
Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind. The Sovereign of mankind. The God of mankind. From the evil of the retreating whisperer. Who whispers in the breasts of mankind. From among the jinn and mankind.
Wattaba'u ma tatlush-shayatinu 'ala mulki Sulayman. Wa ma kafara Sulaymanu walakinnash-shayatina kafaru yu'allimunan-nasas-sihr. Wa ma unzila 'alal-malakayni bi-Babila Haruta wa Marut. Wa ma yu'allimani min ahadin hatta yaqula innama nahnu fitnatun fala takfur.
And they followed what the devils taught during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But they do not teach anyone unless they say: We are a trial, so do not disbelieve.
Wa awhayna ila Musa an alqi 'asak. Faghulibuu hunalika wanqalabu saghirin. Wa ulqiyas-saharatu sajidin. Qalu amanna bi-Rabbil-'alamin. Rabbi Musa wa Harun.
And We inspired Moses: Throw your staff, and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. So the truth was established, and what they did was nullified. They were defeated there and turned back humiliated. And the magicians fell down in prostration. They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds. The Lord of Moses and Aaron.
Falamma alqaw qala Musa ma ji'tum bihis-sihr. Innallaha sayubtiluh. Innallaha la yuslihu 'amalal-mufsidin. Wa yuhiqqullahul-haqqa bi-kalimatihi wa law karihal-mujrimun.
When they had thrown, Moses said: What you have brought is only magic. Indeed, Allah will expose its futility. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of corrupters. And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it.
And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is.

La ilaha illallahul-'Adhimul-Halim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbul-'Arshil-'Adhim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbus-samawati wa Rabbul-ardi wa Rabbul-'Arshil-Karim.
None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, the Magnificent, the Forbearing. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, Lord of the Noble Throne.
Bukhari 6345 · Muslim 2730
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma'jurni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha.
To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better.
Muslim 918
The evil eye is real — the Quran and Sunnah confirm it. Learn how to protect yourself.
Allah says: "And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message." (Surah Al-Qalam 68:51)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The evil eye is real. If anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye." (Sahih Muslim 2188)
A correct understanding of jinn and magic in light of the Quran and Sunnah.
Jinn are a creation of Allah, created from smokeless flame of fire (Surah Ar-Rahman 55:15). Among them are Muslims and non-Muslims, good and evil. They can see us but we cannot see them (Surah Al-A'raf 7:27).
Jinn can harm humans by Allah's permission, but their power is limited. Allah says: "Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak." (Surah An-Nisa 4:76)
"Whoever goes to a fortune teller and asks him about something, his prayers will not be accepted for forty nights." (Sahih Muslim 2230)
"Whoever goes to a fortune teller or soothsayer and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him)." (Ahmad 9532)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever hangs an amulet, may Allah not fulfill his need." (Ahmad 17404)
Wearing amulets with unknown words, symbols, or numbers can lead to shirk. Only Quranic verses and authentic duas are the correct means of seeking Allah's protection.
Wa man yatawakkal 'alallahi fahuwa hasbuh.
"And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him." (Surah At-Talaq 65:3)
The most important element of ruqyah is complete trust in Allah. Ruqyah is a means (sabab), but the cure is solely in Allah's hands. Keep your tawhid strong, fulfill obligatory worship, and be patient.
Following this routine daily will, by Allah's will, strengthen your spiritual protection.
When you feel afflicted or need extra protection:
